Revues and comments
“Your excellent book will be invaluable to me as a Christian, as a churchwoman, and as an author writing about the Episcopal church.” - Jan Karon, author of the famous Mitford Years Series.
“Here will be found the observations of a veteran of parish ministry and suggestions of parochial activities from a priest’s wife whose life was not confined to any kind of ivory tower.” - The Rt. Rev. Donald J. Parsons, Sixth Bishop of Quincy, Retired, from the Foreword. In it he states,"This speaks myriads from one who, himself, has run the gamut of a clergyman’s life."
“I have just finished reading one of the most unusual books I’ve ever encountered. It contains such eclectic topics as church history, recipes, crossword puzzles, customs in homes, a humorous quiz, and some practical advice on evangelism… The book probably will be useful to clergy, who could remove pages and make additional copies. Lay persons may find accounts of various observances in the home to be helpful.” - David Kalvelage, executive editor for The Living church.
"An Excellent book for Episcopalians, and those searching for the Faith. It has a little of everything for everyone that is interested in the Catholic Faith, Anglican style. I'm waiting for Volume ii to be published." - Fr. John H. Shumaker - St. Mathew's Church-San Andreas, California
"I have found To God Be the Glory to be a helpful resource with a variety of uses in the life and work of my congregation. We print a booklet of Chapter One," Why We Do What We Do," for newcomers and for parishioners who would like to learn more about the Anglican expessions of our faith. I have incorporated much of the material from the resource into confirmation instructions and inquirer's classes; those who attended the classes were impressed and delighted with the helpfulness of the information. Excerpts from To God Be the Glory have been used on our Sunday Bulletins to strengthen our understanding of our faith. One of our biggest joys at St. Mark's is the Seder Meal celebrated annually with Bishop Ackerman and Jo, using the sinstructions included in To God Be the Glory." - Fr. M. Bill Knapp - St. Mark's Church-Silvis, Illinois
Bishop Keith Ackerman and his wife Joann have written a wonderful resource for clergy in small churches entited "To God be the Glory." It is a wonderful, hands-on, "how to" book which covers a wide range of topics, but all related to life in the small parish, the real stuff that clergy don't learn in seminary. It gives practical advice on liturgy, pastoral care, parish life and fellowship. I wish that I had had something like this in my hands when I started out as the vicar of a small mission in a small Tennessee town. Later, when I was Canon to the Ordinary, I liked to give this book to new ordinands as an ordination present. It should be in the hands of every parish priest. - The Very Rev. Robert Dedmon, Dean - St. Paul's Cathedral, Peoria, Illinois
Other publications, including the Peoria Journal Star and Foundations have featured similar articles touting To God Be The Glory’s praises. It comes highly recommended from those in the know.
